Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum vision applies to all our young people, regardless of background, gender, sexual orientation or ability.

Our young people will develop a life-long love of learning through our rich, broad and balanced curriculum and expert delivery. Our vision is that the Personal Social Health Education curriculum will enable all students to gain a better understanding of themselves, the people in their lives as well as the wider world around them. PSHE will create a safe space for students to ask big questions about real life issues they may be facing growing up, such as mental health, puberty, sexuality and more.

All students at Heworth Grange School are without exception entitled to a world class education that is holistic, ambitious and aspirational. Therefore, it is our vision that PSHE equips students with the confidence and life skills to develop into the best version of themselves.

It is vital that we prepare our young people so that they are empowered to become engaged positive and respectful citizens. At the very heart of PSHE, we want to ensure students understand the complexities and diversity of the world around them. We want our students to leave school understanding the history and current issues of prejudice and discrimination, so that they as individuals can take a stand against it at all levels.

We are responsible for ensuring our young people are confident to pursue ambitious next steps, and PSHE plays a vital role in this. Our aim is to ensure that, by the end of year 11, all students will have had the opportunity to write their own CV as well as had several opportunities to learn about different careers they may be interested in.

  • Learn about the world around them, ensuring they understand how to listen to and work alongside people who may have different opinions to their own.
