Heworth Grange students enjoyed another excellent set of exam results in both GCSE and A-Level this year.

In a year that saw a record fall nationally in students achieving grade C or higher at GCSE, our overall GCSE result for students achieving 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C increased to 94% – an improvement of 1% on 2012 and well above the National average of 68.1%. Students achieving 5 or more GCSEs including Maths and English fell slightly by 2% from last year’s total of 61%.

At A2 Level (Year 13) our students achieved a fantastic 100% pass rate, 2% up on 2012.

The summer of 2013 heralded another excellent year for exam results at Heworth Grange. A record number (94%) of our year 11 students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C. Of these 59% achieved the much sought after A*-C grades in Maths and English. This was particularly pleasing given the much publicised changes to the marking of GCSEs which made it much tougher to achieve a C grade in these subjects than in previous years.

As ever many individual young people achieved extremely well, securing a large number of top grades and demonstrating once again that if our students attend regularly and work hard with our talented staff then they can achieve as well here as they can in any school anywhere. Another group of students who did particularly well were our A level students. The class of 2013 achieved a 100% pass rate at A Level, for the first time in the school’s history, and the percentage of top grades rose by an amazing 11%. This too represented a fantastic performance by these young people and resulted in all of them securing their all-important places at the universities and colleges of their choice. We wish them well in their new adventures.

Finally I would like to pass on our congratulations to all of the Heworth Grange students who sat important exams this summer. And on their behalf, to say a big thank you to you, their families and friends, whose unwavering support will have made a massive difference in helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
